Oil pulling or also known as “gundusha” or “kavala” is an ancient Ayuverdic dental technique which involves swishing a tablespoon of oil in the mouth on an empty stomach for 15-20 minutes. This is an extremely effective way of cleansing the body from toxins and improving oral and overall health. It is especially beneficial for detoxifying the teeth and gums and whitening of your teeth at the same time.

In this case, there is a natural yet incredibly efficient method for eliminating all the plaque and bacteria in the mouth – oil pulling. This method involves coconut oil, as it has the most powerful antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties which can help kill off any unwanted bacteria living in your mouth.

Not only will this method eliminate the bacteria, but it will also remineralize your teeth and strengthen the gums.

Coconut Oil Pulling

Ingredients you will need:

  • Coconut oil (pure)
  • 1 spoon

Instructions:

Start off by scooping out one tablespoon of the coconut oil, and put it in your mouth. Allow it to melt, and once it does, swirl, push and pull the oil around and in-between your teeth.  The process should last for around 5-20 minutes, and once you are done, you must rinse your mouth with water.

Once done with the pulling, make sure you spit the oil in the trash can, not in the sink, as it is thick and it may clog your sink pipes.

Performing this process at least 2-3 times a month will help your teeth look healthier and whiter. All in all, it is a good alternative for the chemically-loaded toothpaste found on the market.
